Glow Sticks
Starting uni can be overwhelmingly exciting, but also scary, lonely, or confusing. You might feel completely in the dark about finding your way around town and campus, making new friends, and settling into a new life. But there’s a light in the darkness: friends who want to help, and a God who loves you more than you can imagine!
Jesus said: “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."
Have you ever thought that God wants to shine light into the dark places of your life? Wherever you have sadness or loneliness, God wants to shine in joy and love. Wherever you have anxiety or fear, God wants to shine in rest and joy. Wherever you have grief or pain, God wants to shine in comfort and healing. Wherever you have guilt or bitterness, God wants to shine in forgiveness.
Jesus said: “the people who sat in darkness have seen a great light. And for those who lived in the land where death casts its shadow, a light has shined.”
Want to hear more? Check out some of the groups that meet on campus and at local churches:
Ichthus Student Group, the uni chaplaincy, the Christian Union... there’s many more! Here are people who are ready not just to help you find your way round life at uni, but life in the light God brings.
Jesus said: “I have come as a light to shine in this dark world, so that all who put their trust in me will no longer remain in the dark.”
Come along with your questions and thoughts. You don’t have to call yourself a Christian to come make friends and hear a little more! These are places to explore life, God, and all our possibilities. Get in touch for more information!
Jesus said: “Put your trust in the light while there is still time; then you will become children of the light."

Ichthus Student Group
Ichthus is St. Peter’s group for students and young adults. We are a diverse mixture of students from Kent and Christ Church universities, international students at English language schools, and young adults working and living in Canterbury. We come from many kinds of churches, communities, and backgrounds to explore our faith or the possibility of faith together. Friends of all religions or none are welcome!
We meet Thursdays during term time at 8pm in the upper room. Join us for spiritual discussion and Bible study, as well as film nights, music nights, games, cooking and much more! Previously we have explored a myriad of spiritual gifts through creative workshops, studied the Lord’s Prayer and other “famous” prayers in the Bible, dug into the book of Jonah, and considered Jesus' radical claims about his divinity, as well as going bowling, having BBQs, pancake parties, quiz nights, to name a few. We've enjoyed visiting the campuses to worship with other Christian groups. We look forward to more home-cooked lunches after Sunday morning services, generously provided by our “term-time parents” in the church community.
For more information, news, and events, find us on Facebook as “Ichthus Student Group,” or contact Beth Little at 07983729334 or studentworker@canterburymethodistchurch.co.uk. Send your email address if you’d like regular news and updates.
(Ichthus is the ancient Greek word for fish. It was used as a symbol by the early church as the letters form an acronym for "Jesus Christ, Son of God, Saviour")
